  2. Short Side 1:
Sc in the end of each row—10 sc along the short edge.
  3. Corner Increase:
Work 2 sc in the same end stitch (increase at the corner).
  4. Long Side:
Sc in each st across next long edge—34 sc.
  5. Corner Increase:
2 sc in same end stitch.
  6. Short Side 2:
Sc in the end of each row—9 sc.
  7. Corner Increase:

C. Main Bag Body (Continuous Rounds)

  1. Work in Spiral:
Ch 1, begin sc in first st. Place a stitch marker at the start of the round.
  2. Sc in each st around.
  3. When you reach the marker, move it up to the next round’s first stitch.
  4. Continue until you have 26 rounds after the base (or until desired bag height).

D. Eyelet/Holes Row (for Adjustable Strap Placement)

  1. Slip stitch into the starting stitch, turn work.
  2. Ch 1.
  3. Ch 2, skip 3 sts, sc in next st.
    • Sc in next 2 sts (for a total of 3 sc after chain space).
    • [Ch 3, skip 3, 3 sc] repeat until you have made 4 chain spaces/holes.
  4. Sc in next 24 sts.
  5. Repeat [ch 3, skip 3, 3 sc] pattern for another 4 holes on the other side.
  6. Sc across the rest of the round.

Count: from start to edge of first set of holes should be 26 sc, then 4 chain spaces, 26 sc, 4 more chain spaces. Adjust as needed for symmetry.

E. Eyelet Border (Optional, with New Color)

  1. Attach new color in any chain-3 hole.
  2. Ch 1. Work 3 sc into each chain-3 space (hole).
  3. Sc in each sc stitch across as you work around the bag edge.
  4. Repeat until all chain spaces and stitches are worked.
  5. Sl st to join at starting st, fasten off and weave ends.

F. Adjustable Strap/Cord

  1. Make a slip knot, ch 2.
  2. In first ch, work 1 sc (keep this and all stitches loose).
  3. Turn. Work 1 sc in the “side loop”/single stitch.
  4. Repeat: Turn, sc in single stitch each row, keeping stitches loose.
  5. Continue until cord measures approx. 110 cm (43") or desired length.

Tip: Keeping this cord loose helps inserting your hook each time. If stitches are tight, it will be difficult to work into them.

Finish:
Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

G. Insert and Secure Strap

  1. Weave strap through the 4 chain spaces on one bag side.
  2. Repeat for the 4 holes on the other side.
  3. Adjust for desired length and evenness.
  4. Sew both ends of strap together securely (using yarn needle) for a continuous and sturdy handle.

H. Bow (Optional)

  1. With contrast color, ch enough for desired bow width (e.g. ch 18).
  2. Sc in rows (e.g. 10–12 rows) to create a rectangle.
  3. Fasten off and wrap yarn around center tightly to cinch, form bow shape, and sew to secure.
  4. Attach bow to front of bag using yarn needle.

Customization Tips

  • Color: Use multiple shades or stripes along body/border for visual interest.
  • Size: Adjust starting chain and row count for larger or smaller bag.
  • Strap: Make longer for crossbody, shorter for handbag; substitute with purchased cord or leather for a modern look.
  • Closure: Sew in a zipper, magnetic snap, or decorative button for secure closure.
  • Embellishments: Add tassels, embroidery, or beads.
