  • Adding Beads: Secure at the ends of each drawstring, if desired.

1. Base

  1. With Color A, make a slip knot and ch 26.
  2. Row 1:
    • Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Optional: place a stitch marker here for start of round.

2. Sides – Main Body

Round 2 (Setup):

  1. Ch 1, sc in BLO of each st around. (50 sts)

  2. Sc in BLO of each st around. (50 sts)
  3. Repeat for next round.

3. Heart Motif Colorwork

Note: The heart is created by changing to Color B for a specific number of center stitches in each round. Carry the unused color inside the stitches.

Chart for Heart:

For each round, using BLO sc:

  • Sc-BLO with Color B in next st, switching back to Color A on last pull-through.
  • Continue, following chart.

Continue carrying the unused yarn, working over it with each stitch, and tug gently on floats to avoid puckering.

4. Continue Sides After Heart

Round 16-19 (Body Height):

  • Sc-BLO in each st with Color A only. (50 sts/round)
  • Work four rounds; mark first stitch of each round.

5. Eyelet Round for Drawstrings

Round 20:

  • Ch 2, skip next 2 sts, [sc in next 3 sts, ch 2, skip next 2 sts] repeat all the way around.
  • Ends with a total of 10 ch-2 spaces.
  • Join with sl st or work spiral as consistent with previous rounds.

6. Top Border

Rounds 21-24:

  • With Color A, sc-BLO in each st and in each ch of eyelet round (50 sts per round).
  • Work four rounds.
  • Fasten off, and use the invisible join method for a neat finish.

7. Finishing

  • Weave in all yarn ends carefully and securely.
  • Use a yarn needle to close any small gaps.

8. Drawstrings

  1. With Color B, chain 65. Fasten off.
    • Make two such chains.
  2. Thread each chain through the ch-2 spaces (eyelets) in opposing directions—one from right, one from left.
  3. Optional: Thread a small bead on both ends, tie a knot to secure.
  4. Trim excess yarn after knot.

Suggestions & Tips

  • Customization: Adjust base chain and number of rows for larger or smaller pouch. Alter heart colors or position for different look.
  • Yarn Tension: Keep tension even, particularly when carrying yarn for colorwork; pull floats gently.
  • Markers: Always use a marker for the first st in spiral rounds.
  • Stitch Count: Verify stitch count at the end of each setup and colorwork round—mistakes can distort the pouch or heart.
  • Finishing: Use invisible join on the last round for a clean, professional look.

Final Words

Your pouch will cinch easily with the double drawstring, displaying a charming colorwork heart on each face. Top border provides structure, and the bottom is seamless for security. Add beads, charms, or a fabric lining to further personalize. This thoughtful, handmade pouch is perfect for tokens, coins, or gifting.
